Sunday Funday at The Wellington Tramway Museum

After the successful holding of five previous &lsquoSunday Funday&rsquo where hundreds of visitors have enjoyed the

activities arranged by the organisers. Queen Elizabeth Park has proved to be an ideal location for the event and the Tramway plans to continue holding the event on the last Sunday of each month. Ideally located between Kapiti and Wellington City, Queen Elizabeth Park is already the most visited regional park in the Wellington region and the new fly-over at MacKay&rsquos Crossing has greatly improved access to and from the Park off State Highway One.

Entry to the park is free, with the event running from 10am to 7pm, featuring vintage tram rides, pony rides, kids rides including a bouncy castle and hot food, craft and collectible market stalls. It&rsquos an excellent place for a great day out - bring a picnic, enjoy the beach, nature walks, rides and stalls.

We will again have a car boot sale area and for just five dollars people can sell and swap just about anything so long as it&rsquos legal. No booking is required, just turn up on the day. The car boot site fees will be donated to Kapiti&rsquos Emergency Medical Service.

There will be a display of photographs of the marines and the three camps taken during 1942 and 1943. There will also be some vintage military vehicles on display throughout the day and New Zealand movie news reels filmed during the second world war will be showing in the Tramway Museums &lsquoKing Kong&rsquo tram theatre.

A charity sausage sizzle and free concert featuring local musicians starts at 3.30pm and will run until 6.00pm. Trams will run until after dark at 7.00pm. This will be a rare opportunity for the public to travel in the vintage tramcars after sunset and has only been done on rare occasions since the tram museum opened in 1965.

After 5.00pm the charge for riding on the trams will be a gold coin donation only. Donations will also be collected at the concert and the full proceeds will go to Kapiti&rsquos Emergency Medical Service.
